New Martinsville Wastewater Treatment "Cleaner recreational waters through better waste management"
General The New Martinsville Water and Sanitary is authorized to discharge wastewater into the Ohio River by the West Virginia Division of Environmental Protection Agency. The DEP issued each wastewater treatment plant a permit which is renewed every 5 years, DEP also has inspectors that make regular visits to assure that all regulations, monitoring and operational requirements are met.
Plant Information We operate and maintain a Class III 2.3 mgd oxidation ditch treatment facility, the collection system consists of 593 manholes, 7 lift stations, 180,170 ft. of line with sizes varying from 2 inch to 24 inch. The treatment facility consists of a mechanical bar screen, vortex grit removal, (2) 600,000 gallon rotor-aerated race track design ditches, 2 final clarifiers, ultra violet disinfection, parshall flume effluent measuring device, aerobic digester, 1.5 meter belt filter press, 2 emergency sludge storage tanks, and emergency sludge drying beds.
Operator Information Operators are state certified and must maintain continuing education hours to retain certification. 1. Chief Operator: Class IV WW Operator, WV Lab Certified, 32 years service with City of New Martinsville. 2. Operator I: Class II WW Operator, WV Lab Certified, 8 years service. 3. Operator II: Class II WW Operator, 7 years service 4. Operator III: Class II WW Operator, WV Lab Certified, 5 years service
